Where to Sell Designer Clothes in Sydney (and Actually Get a Good Return)

Online marketplaces, resale apps or a Double Bay boutique? An honest guide to selling designer clothing in Sydney — and why consignment so often wins.

You have a wardrobe full of beautiful things you no longer wear. You’d like them gone, you’d like them to go to a good home, and you’d quite like to be paid properly for them. So where do you start?

There are three main ways to sell designer fashion in Sydney. Each has its place — but they are not created equal.

Option one: online marketplaces

Listing your pieces yourself can work, but it’s a job. You’ll need to photograph every item in good light, write descriptions, answer endless “is this still available?” messages, field low-ball offers and organise postage or pick-ups with strangers. For one or two pieces, fine. For a whole wardrobe edit, it quickly becomes a part-time job.

Option two: resale apps and online platforms

Specialist resale platforms take on the selling for you, but your pieces disappear into a warehouse, commission structures vary, and you’re competing with thousands of near-identical listings. Great for some items — less great when you want your pieces presented with care.

Option three: a consignment boutique

This is where we’re biased, but hear us out. A good consignment boutique does the work for you — and does it in person, in front of buyers who are actively shopping for exactly what you have.

New to consigning? Here’s exactly how designer consignment works, step by step.

  • No upfront fees. You only earn when your piece sells.
  • Half the sale is yours. At Secondo, consignors receive 50% of the selling price.
  • Expert pricing and styling. We know what sells in Double Bay and how to present it.
  • A loyal clientele. Twenty-six years of clients who trust our eye — and come back weekly to see what’s new.
  • Zero hassle. No photos, no messages, no meeting strangers in car parks.

The best return isn’t just the price. It’s the time you didn’t spend getting it.

How to get the best price for your pieces

  1. Sell in season. Bring summer pieces in spring and winter coats in autumn, when buyers are shopping for them.
  2. Presentation matters. Freshly dry-cleaned, pressed and free of marks, pulls or odours.
  3. Keep the extras. Dust bags, boxes, spare buttons and receipts all add confidence and value.
  4. Be realistic. Condition, demand and season drive price more than what you originally paid.
  5. Choose current pieces. In-season designer and contemporary labels move fastest.
